Being a Clean Eater, I love a healthy treat that I can enjoy without feeling guilty. I happened upon Nature's Bakery Fig Bars when I received a sample in my KLUTCHclub box. Having a sweet tooth, I was eager to try these bars. I love Fig Newtons, but I wanted to find a healthier version with more natural ingredients that still packed with all the goodness of a Fig Newton. I have tried several brands of fig bars and the ingredients may be good, but they either lack flavor or texture; they tend to be dry. Unexpectedly, Fig Bars have a very short list of wholesome ingredients and are packed with flavor without being too sweet.
Nature’s Bakery was generous enough to send me three boxes of Fig Bars in the following flavors: Vanilla Raspberry, Blueberry, Apple Cinnamon. To my surprise, they are available in seven flavors and bought them at my local Sprouts market so I could review all the flavors: Apple Cinnamon, Blueberry, Whole Wheat Fig, Peach Apricot, Raspberry, Vanilla Fig, Vanilla Raspberry.
Fig Bars are cholesterol-free, dairy-free, kosher, all natural, and NON-GMO. I asked my panel of taste testers to give them a try. Everyone loved them! The most popular flavor was Fig, with Raspberry coming in second. Here are some of the comments from my panel of testers:
“Love the peach apricot and enjoy it as a snack or as an on-the-go breakfast paired with hard boiled eggs; sweet and chewy treat. I keep a few in the car and in my work bag.”
“With Fig Bars, I can conquer my sweet tooth and stay on track with my healthy eating. I enjoy Fig Bars with a glass of milk for cookies-and-milk without the guilt.”
“I love the gooey goodness. Before soccer practice I grab one to give me the fuel I need to run my drills. They also make a great after-school snack.”
“Superior flavor and texture without being to health-foody! How nice to find a healthy snack that included figs, a hard ingredient to find. When shopping for snacks, I always read ingredients first, and Fig Bars met my demands; no high fructose corn syrup, no hydrogenated oils, no white sugars. NON-GMO is an added perk and low in calories.”
“As an endurance athlete, I love a quick snack I can have before a training run. Fig Bars give me the carbs I need to fuel my runs without being heavy. Anytime I need a little pick-me-up, I grab a Fig Bar.”
Personally, I enjoy having the selection of Fig Bars in different flavors. You can really taste the fruit flavor combinations while still getting the benefit of figs, including the pleasant little crunch. The gooey fruit center is consistent in all flavors, soft and moist. The outer cookie crust tends to vary depending on the flavor. The Vanilla Raspberry has a little different crust than the other whole wheat variety, making it a bit drier. It seems more like a cookie treat and can be compared to those Christmas Linzer cookies with raspberry jam filling. The majority of the flavors have the whole wheat outer crust that gives them a wholesome flavor without being to grainy in flavor and texture.
Each bar has around 110 calories. Each package has two Fig Bars, so around 220 calories total. Not bad for a wholesome, delicious and filling snack!

Their main sweetener is brown rice syrup. To find out more about this sweetener I went to foodfacts.com
“Brown rice syrup is an extremely versatile and relatively healthy sweetener which is derived by culturing rice with enzymes to break down the starches, then straining off the liquid and cooking it until the desired consistency is reached. The final product is roughly 50% soluble complex carbohydrates, 45% maltose, and 3% glucose. The glucose is absorbed into the bloodstream immediately, the maltose takes up to one and a half hours to be digested, and the complex carbohydrates take from two to three hours, providing a steady supply of energy.”
More importantly, I was very impressed with their mission: to offer all natural, nutritious and deliciously wholesome snack foods to support balanced, healthy, everyday lifestyles.
